Terms of Service
Last updated: July 26, 2026
These terms ("Terms") govern your use of Plainly ("the service", "we", "us"). Plainly is operated by Plainly, the seller of the service. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these Terms and enter into a contract with Plainly.
What Plainly does
Plainly uses AI to produce a plain-language explanation of documents you upload — for example medical bills, leases, or forms. The output is intended to help you understand a document. It is not legal, medical, financial, or tax advice, and you should not rely on it as a substitute for a qualified professional.
Payments and Merchant of Record
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries related to billing and handles returns, refunds, chargebacks, and tax collection. Payment, billing, cancellation, and refund mechanics are further described in Paddle's Buyer Terms and in our Refund policy.
Intellectual property
Plainly, including its software, design, branding, logos, and documentation, is owned by Plainly and is protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service in line with your plan. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, resell, or redistribute the service or any part of it, except as permitted by law.
You keep ownership of the documents and content you upload. You grant us a limited licence to store and process that content solely to provide the service to you.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old (and old enough to form a binding contract in your country) to use Plainly.
- You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for activity on your account.
- You are responsible for the content you upload and must have the right to share it with the service.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Upload content that is illegal, infringes someone else's rights, or contains malware.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, or overload the service.
- Use Plainly to make automated decisions about a person without human review.
Credits and subscriptions
- Each document decode consumes 3 credits. New accounts receive 3 free credits after email verification.
- Paid plans are billed monthly through Paddle, our Merchant of Record. Credits are granted at the start of each billing cycle and do not roll over.
- You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time from your account. When you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the month you already paid for and you keep the credits for that month. You will not be charged again after that.
- Subscription charges are non-refundable. When you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the month you already paid for and you keep those credits — you will simply not be charged again. See our Refund policy for details.
Availability
We work to keep Plainly available, but we do not guarantee uptime. The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Plainly is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenue, arising out of your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. If the changes are material, we'll let you know by email or in the app.
